It is with great sadness that we hear of Garys passing. Gary was a part of our lives for many years at Silverwood Farm in Fredericton. Gary so loved visiting all the horses at the farm, but he had a favorite one. Scooter an Arabian gelding which he interacted with and took riding lessons on him twice a week for many years. Garys love for Scooter was evident. Although Scooter was his favorite Gary brought dozens of cases of peppermints for all the horses and would go along each stall everytime he came and feed a treat to everyone. The horses have missed him. He would be very happy to know that his NBA basketball team the Boston Celtics won the World Championship this year. We had many conversations about the Celtics. Condolences to Gary’s families.
Comrades from the work years are hard to lose.
Gary was a strong character. I always have admiration for those “Math” degree guys.
He and I shared a love of the Boston Celtics and Louis L’Amour. I gave him my entire collection of over a 105 Louis books. And would call him about Celtics basketball periodically. Hadn’t done so the last 3 years but this year they won the Championship for the first time since 2008. He’d like that.
I always honked my horn when I’d see him on his Silverwood highway walks.
My best memories are basketball times we shared at Brunswick St church gym. He wouldn’t give an inch in competing and played to win. I can still see his face and body reaction anytime he was on the winning side. Someone said he used to carry a jackknife playing second base for St Stephen baseball.
I kept my Y2K certificate knowing that Gary led the entire project for GNB.
I happen to be wearing a Celtics TShirt this morning when I got the email news. Fitting “coincidence” some would say - but a God connection I’d say.
We are indeed in the times of losing contemporaries. Makes us thankful for relationships and shared life experiences.
Dick Slipp (workmate at GNB for over 30 years)

I met Gary when we both worked in the computer division of the Department of Supply and Services in the '70's. I introduced him to the noon hour basketball at Brunswick Street Baptist where he enjoyed many years of basketball, and became known as the "good if it goes" player, his shout-out if and when he fouled you while taking a shot. And he was a member of our 1978 senior championship team. Condolences to family.
