Obituary of Brenda A. McLaughlin
The family of Brenda Annette McLaughlin is sad to announce the passing of their devoted mother and grandmother at the Saint John Regional Hospital Tuesday May21,2024.Born in Marysville on March 02,1940 to the late Curtis Moore and Lillian Saunders(nee Pyne).
After graduating from Fredricton High ,Brenda attended Fredericton Business College and then worked for the Stan Cassidy Rehab Centre before meeting her husband “Bud” and moving to Grand Manan. She raised four boys and immensely enjoyed following her son’s athletic teams and later her grandchildrens. Brenda was an athletic teenager, swimming,skating and baseball. Later on Grand Manan she played women’s softball. Brenda was also and avid curler and member of the Grand Manan Curling Club.
Brenda had many hobbies, a passion for gardening both vegetable and flowers. An adept bookkeeper for various family enterprises. After her sons were grown, Brenda owned and operated her own business McLaughlins Wharf Inn. For over twenty five years she took pride in offering both islanders and visitors home cooked meals and accommodations. She developed life long friendships with those who worked beside her and with returning guests, some of which came season after season.
Brenda was a generous woman with her beautiful baking for fundraisers, events and being a thoughtful caring neighbour. She volunteered for countless charities but her favourite was the Grand Manan Animal Welfare League. Her mission to spay and neuter feral cats and being a lover of cats, taming a few feral cats to be her pets and companions.
Brenda is survived by her sons Todd, Peter (Jennifer), Toby (Tricia),Robin ( Linda) and her grandchildren Ashley (Ben), Maddison ( Connor), Mya, Jane (Jay), Kadie, Wyatt, Tanner, Breighton and Bennett and her great grandchildren Celeste and Jo. She is also survived by her brother Randy (Leigh) and her sister in law Dora L’Aventure. Predeceased by her sons father James McLaughlin and her grandson baby Daniel.
Per Brenda’s request there will be no service or visitation. Memorial donations can be made to the Grand Manan Animal Welfare League. Care of Sally Cogswell, 20 Red Point Rd, Grand Manan E5G 4J2
