Obituary of Cecilia G. Corbett
Cecilia Geraldine Corbett of Fredericton, NB, passed away peacefully at York Care Centre on May 9th, 2024. Cecilia was born in Johnville, NB on May 26th, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Bridget (Hall) Corbett.
She is survived by her son, John Dow Hayward and his wife, Kathleen Finnegan Hayward, grandchildren Nicole Zheng and Brian Hayward, several nieces, nephews, and her sisters-in-law Audrey, Edith, and Rita Corbett.
Cecilia was the last surviving sibling in her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Maurice (Rita), Louis (Eveleen), Francis, George (June), Cecil (her twin), and Alvin Corbett; sister Mary Hathaway (George Downing and Cecil Hathaway); nephews Joseph Thomas Downing and George Corbett; great niece Eileen Corbett; and great nephew Jacob Elliott.
Faith, family, and friends were very important to Cecilia. She attended St. Dunstan’s Church in Fredericton for many years, and then St. Theresa’s Church in her later years when she moved to the northside of Fredericton. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 55 years and an associate member of the Congregation of Notre Dame for over 40 years. Cecilia maintained many long-lasting friendships.
In her early years she assisted with the care of patients at the Polio Clinic in Fredericton, and was a telephone operator in Woodstock, NB. She also worked as a switchboard operator at the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel in Fredericton for many years.
Cecilia believed in giving back to the community. She volunteered at the Red Cross, Birthright, Alzheimer’s Society and York Manor, to name a few.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare professionals and friends who supported Cecilia over the years. We also would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the York Care Centre staff for their years of dedicated care, support and kindness.
