The family announces the passing of Doris Johnstone Griffin (Stott) at the Ridgewood Hospital Veterans Wing on 31 Oct 2023.
Born in Fort Osborne Barracks Manitoba 18 Aug 1923, Doris was the daughter of the late Andrew and late Georgina (Murdoch) Stott from Aberdeen, Scotland. She grew up in Montreal with her three siblings serving as a Pte in the Canadian Woman's Army Corp during WWII. It was here Doris met and married Rupert Griffin Dec. 1945. They travelled to the remote Island of Grand Manan to meet Rupert's family and they stayed. The rest of the story can only be attested to by their three surviving daughters Gwendolyn Griffin (Saint John, N.B.), Nancy Griffin and Gail Miller (Wayne) of Grand Manan.
She welcomed each of her Grandchildren with love and the belief "if I'd known grandchildren were so much fun, I'd have had them 1st": Ian Deutcher (Alberta), Jeremy Miller (Jocelyn) of Grand Manan, Patrick (Sally)Miller of Tasmania, Australia, Jessamyn Griffin, and Bailey Hagag (Shadi) of Toronto.
Great grandchildren Brady (Megen) of White Head, Stella, and Alexander Rupert (Tasmania, Australia), Julian (Toronto) and one great-great granddaughter Evelyn (White Head).
She is survived by her sister Rona Stott (Montreal) and will be greatly missed by her niece Barbara Hebert (Gilbert) and family.
Predeceased by her husband Rupert Griffin (2007), son Andrew R. Griffin (2000), sister Ena Patricia Stott (2014) and brother Andrew H.D. Stott Jr. (1955).
Doris enjoyed shopping for herself and others. Rupert declared, "When she dies, Doris will ask the Lord to let them stop at Kmart" on the way to her Heavenly home.
She loved socializing and any excuse was good enough to eat out, especially as her sight and hearing diminished but her appetite did not.
Throughout her life she took pride in helping others when they were in need.
Staying in her home was made possible by the kind and patient care given by many local homecare personnel. We would like to extend a special thank you, well deserved, to Glenna Sullivan for going above and beyond in her compassionate love and care of Mum.
A private family interment will take place at the North Head Cemetery.
