Obituary
Obituary of Margot Mais
Peacefully, at her home in St. Andrews, NB in her 89th year, surrounded by family, friends and dogs. Small in stature, she was larger than life. Predeceased by her loving husband Norman Talbot Mais, she is survived by her children Peter (Maggie), Susan, Terry and Tony (Lori). Her grandchildren Jenny, Brendan, Kate, Erin, Luke, Daniel, Kayla and Kelsey lovingly remember their Nina. The granddaughter of the original Lord Shaughnessy, only child of René and Edith (Shaughnessy) Redmond, Margot was born in Montreal on Valentine's Day, 1916. She and Norman moved their young family to St. Andrews in 1960. She was a noted Red Cross Ambulance Driver in World War II, an accomplished athlete and a generous, committed volunteer for such organizations as the Girl Guides of Canada, Sunbury Shores Arts & Nature, the SPCA and the Fundy Community Foundation. She was the matriarch of Bantry Bay Farm. Whether looking after children, grandchildren, cows, hens, donkeys or dogs, she was always focused on the care and feeding of someone. For 88 years, she filled the world with energy, humour and warmth. Her spirit lives on in everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Special thanks from the family to Julie, Bonnie, Alison, Kevin and Caroll, whose friendship and devotion were without limit. The funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, July 16, 2004 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church (King Street at Parr), with a reception to follow at the Algonquin Hotel. Margot was an original. She will never be forgotten. She lived life to the fullest, with grace, modesty and good humour. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Margot's memory to the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation. MacDonald Select Community Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen in care of arrangements.
