BARTER (MacMillan) Margaret Jane … passed away peacefully at the Chateau Westmount in Montreal on February 5, 2011. Born on July 10, 1922 in Calgary, AB. She was pre deceased by members of Kenneth’s family; Elsie and Bob Webber, Little Ridge; Basil and Agnus Barter, Scotch Ridge; Max and Marion Barter, Saint John; Rita and Bert Hilton; London, ON; GW (Chum) Chamberlain, Saint John and Wilfred D (Duke) Cumberland, Fredericton. She is survived by her loving sisters-in-law; Edith (Barter) Chamberlain, Phyllis (Barter) Cumberland, brother …in-law Murdo McLeod, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. As a young woman, Margaret worked at the Telephone Company in Calgary. She met the love of her life and future husband, Kenneth on a chance train ride from Calgary to Toronto. The young couple relocated to Montreal where Margaret worked until retirement for Dupont of Canada. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church, especially the WMS group and volunteered regularly for many years at the Griffith McConnell in the TUCK shop. Margaret and Kenneth spent much of their time travelling to visit family in both the East and West of Canada along with many trips overseas, often with Chum and Edith Chamberlain. Reading was a passion of both Margaret and Ken. Each day they could be spied walking to purchase 2 copies of the Montreal Gazette before returning to their favourite chairs to read the paper from cover to cover and doing the crosswords to completion. Margaret even read the Gazette on February 4, 2011. Margaret was a wonderful artist and always saw the beautiful things both in people and in life that she often captured in her paintings. Margaret will be missed, but we know the tea is on in Heaven and she is joining beloved family and friends there. A Memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held June 4, 2011 at 2 pm at Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2.
