Obituary of Robert Mommon Mitchell
The passing of Robert Mommon Mitchell, husband of Shirley (Brown) Mitchell, occurred on May 12, 2012 at his residence on Campobello Island after a period of failing health. Born June 12, 1928, he was a son of the late John and Georgie (Harvey) Mitchell. He is also survived by two daughters, Ellen Mitchell (Stuart) and Judy Calder (Barry); grandchildren: Krista Murray, Shauna Mitchell, Jake Calder; great-grandchildren: Paige Murray, Zachary Murray, Landen Murray, Falon Jackson, and Halie Jo Jackson; sisters: Mary Lank and Katheryn Anthony; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Douglas Robert; sister, Margaret Sprague; and brothers, Melvin Mitchell and Sumner Mitchell. Robert spent his life as a fisherman on Campobello. He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Wilson’s Beach Baptist Church. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who devoted his life to his family and his Lord. The family will receive friends at Wilson’s Beach Baptist Church for visiting on Monday, May 14from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 15 in the church. Interment will follow in the Head Harbour Community Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.humphreysfh.com.
