Obituary of Beulah Beatrice Griffin
Beulah Beatrice (Theriault) Griffin
Beulah Beatrice Griffin passed peacefully on August 25, 2024, at the Grand Manan Nursing Home with family around her. Born May 20, 1931, in East Ferry, Digby County, NS, she was the daughter of Harland and Georgia (Pyne) Theriault.
Beulah was predeceased by her parents, Harley and Georgie, her husband Merrill Melvin Griffin, her sister Truena Blanche Raymond and her brother-in-law Llewellyn J. Raymond. She is survived by her sons Harley Merrill Griffin and Deane Galen (Heidi) Griffin, and her step-son Robert Arnold (Linda)Griffin. She has six grandchildren, Brandon Flagg, Tasha (Ben) Urquhart, Jordan (Margot )Griffin, Keynan (Terri Lynn) Griffin, Brian Griffin and Jessica Griffin, and two step-grandchildren, Robyn Griffin-Baker, and Sara Griffin. She has ten great-grand children: Griffin Flagg, Madison Flagg, Caleb Estey, Galen Urquhart, Hadyn Urquhart, Rhyse Urquhart, Kassidy Griffin, Bryce Griffin, Lucas Griffin, and Olivia Griffin, and three step-great-grandchildren, Lily Baker, Jack Baker, and Roman Griffin-Bradford, and one great-great-grandchild, Lucy Estey.
Beulah worked in Toronto and Boston prior to marrying Merrill and moving to Grand Manan. She operated two businesses—a hospitality business Surfside Motel for thirty-three years, and a fishing business M. Griffin and Sons. She served one term as mayor of the Village of North Head. She was a member of the North Head Baptist Church and served as the treasurer of the Ladies’ Missionary Society for a number of years.
Beulah was a strong woman, both mentally and physically. She worked very hard and was a determined force as the matriarch of the family. Her cooking skills were renowned, literally feeding thousands of people over her life. She looked after people in need, often sending meals to them and quietly helping them financially when she could. She taught her sons to cook, “in case they did not marry women who could cook”. Beulah loved to travel, sometimes with her husband Merrill and her sister Truena and her husband Llewellyn, and sometimes with just her sister.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of the Grand Manan Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Mum.
Visiting will be held at the Philip Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Centre on Friday August 30th from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service will Saturday August 31st at 11:00 AM, at the North Head Baptist Church, with the Reverend David Smith officiating. Internment following at the North Head Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Action Ministries Food Bank in care of Zoe Parker.
