Obituary of Donna P. Ellis
ELLIS, DONNA P. – After fighting a courageous battle with Inclusion Body Myositis and with her unwavering faith, Mom, Donna Pearl (Tidd) Ellis reached out and took her Angel’s hand to be with her Lord at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024. Wife of Perry Franklin Ellis of Grand Manan, NB; she was Born in Whale Cove, Digby Co., NS; and is the daughter of the late Donald & Edna Myrtle (Frost) Tidd.
Once settled on Grand Manan following her marriage to Perry in 1956, Donna joined the Immanuel Pentecostal Church where she devoted her life to serving God and sharing her talented gift of “playing music by ear” at the piano, organ and occasionally the accordion.
Donna loved her family and welcomed any opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. She stayed at home to raise her children and did not go to work outside her home until later years.
Donna worked for 20 years at the Grand Manan Hospital, first in the Kitchen Dept. and then in the Laundry Dept. Following retirement, she and Perry enjoyed 19 years with their many friends at their trailer at Island View Campground in Bayside, NB. She spent much of her time reading her books nestled on her “perch” overlooking the beautiful St.Croix River. During the winter months, they would drive to Florida to spend a few weeks in a warmer climate.
At home, Donna loved to cook. The aroma of her famous rolls, hot and fresh straight out of the oven often greeted you when entering her home. The kitchen countertop was often lined with baked pies, cookies, cakes, pickles and jellies made from the wild berries she had just hand picked. When she wasn’t cooking she could be found reading or playing her piano or organ.
Special thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Grand Manan Nursing Home who cared for Mom during the 5 years of her residency. You were all very special to her and we are so grateful for the care and compassion you have provided.
Surviving in addition to her husband Perry of 68 years are her children, sons Justin (Sharon) of Nerepis, NB, James (Holly) of Quispamsis, NB, and daughter Heidi Ingalls (Daniel) of Barnesville, NB, and 6 grandchildren Aaron, Amanda, Cortney, Dylan, Jeremy, Matthew, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donna was predeceased by her daughter Darlene Ellis, son Jackson Ellis, sisters Blanche, Elda, Satie, and Edna, brothers Dean, Ainsley, and Wayne.
A funeral service in celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Thursday, August 29th, 2024 at 1:30 pm at the Immanuel Family Life Church 749 Route 776 Grand Manan, NB. Ward McComsky officiating.
Prior to the funeral service, the family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the church. A private family interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.
