Theriault, Janet
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Janet Eileen Theriault on July 30, 2024, at Charlotte County Hospital. Janet was born in St. Stephen, NB on June 11, 1940, to the late William and Maude Fiander (Holt) of Bocabec.
She was predeceased by her husband Russell, infant son Kelvin, siblings William Jr, Cecil, Daniel, May, Earl, Sadie (Hanson), Joyce and Vance, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Janet is survived by her daughter Kathy VanTassel (Blair), son Kevin Theriault, and grandson Gabriel VanTassel, all of Saint Andrews, brother Leo Fiander of Baltimore, MD, and sisters- in-law Sheila Fiander and Lillian Olsson, both of St. Stephen, NB, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Janet was a loving, caring woman who was always willing to help others. She was a devoted and involved mother, grandmother and friend to all! She started her working career as a hairdresser in St. George, owning her own shop there in the late sixties. She was an Avon Representative for many years, where she worked her way up to Area Director. She loved selling Avon as she was able to visit with people, and she made lifelong friends in this role! She was recognized for her Avon sales by winning a trip to Hawaii, which she absolutely loved. In the early nineties she worked at Cappy’s Deli in Saint Andrews until it closed. From there she finished her working career at Kingsbrae Arms and The China Chest.
She, along with a small group of individuals, including her husband Russell, were instrumental in the implementation and construction of the Bayside Community Hall. If anyone in the community was sick and or needed assistance, she organized community dinners to help them out in their time of need. She was a lifelong member of the Women’s Institute, first in the Bayside Chapter, and then in the DeWolfe chapter when Bayside closed. She held all the offices in these branches at one time or another and was also an Area Director. Her faith was very meaningful to her, and she faithfully attended Church every Sunday and served as an Elder of the Greenock Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will take place Monday, August 5th from 11am to 1pm at the Greenock Presbyterian Church (135 Montague St, St. Andrews, NB E5B 1H8). The Funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm in the Church with a reception to follow in the Greenock Church Hall. Interment will take place at the Bocabec Rural Cemetery at 3pm on Monday, August 5th.
