Obituary of Gayle D. Small

Gayle D. Small

1951-2024

It is with heavy hearts the family of Gayle Doreen Small of Grand Manan, NB announces her passing.  Gayle passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Hospital with her children at her side,  on Friday April 5th, 2024.

Born on Grand Manan; she was the daughter of Myrtle (Peggy) Small and the late Thornton (Shorty) Small both of Grand Manan.

Gayle was an avid reader,  loved to do crossword and sudoku puzzles (the harder the better), possessed a great sense of humor, was the first to encourage or help someone in need and was a listening ear for anyone who needed one.  She never forgot a name, a face or a phone number.  Her presence on Facebook will be dearly missed by all on her extensive list of friends.

Most dear to Gayle’s heart were her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.  This was evident by the sparkle in her eyes and smile on her face in their company.  She will be forever loved and dearly missed.

Gayle worked for the Seal Cove Factory for several years, and later was Floor Boss for Centerville Fisheries during the Sea Urchin “boom”.  However,  Gayle's top notch interior painting  and wallpaper hanging skills kept her busy for countless island residents over the years.

Gayle is survived by her mother Peggy Small, one son Cody (Caitlin).  Two daughters; Bobbi Jo Tate and Staci Raymond (Chris).  One sister, Judy Gaskill.  Three  brothers; Larry (Brenda) Small, Steven Small and Dave Small, all of Grand Manan, NB.  Her grandchildren Avery Raymond, Courtland Raymond, Samantha Raymond, Taylor Jacquard, Wyatt Small,  Daxton Small, and Patrick Black.  Her great grandchildren Lily, Luke, Iris, Westen, Emmett and Lincoln.  Several nieces and nephews and countless friends.  Gayle was predeceased by her father Thornton Small and nephew Nick Huggard.

By Gayle’s request, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. On line condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Phillip Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Centre, a service of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB, E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110)
