Visitation
Obituary of Yvonne Marjorie Guthrie
After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, we announce with both sadness and relief the passing of our mother Yvonne Marjorie (Guptill) (Zwicker) Guthrie on July 10, 2023, at the Grand Manan Nursing Home. She was 86 years old.
Despite the challenges this illness presented, her spirit remained resilient, and she touched the lives of those around her with determination, laughter, and love. Though her memory faded, her impact on our lives remains vivid, and her spirit will forever fill our hearts. Vonnie was born December 28, 1936, in Grand Harbour, Grand Manan. She was the daughter of the late Glendon Everet Guptill and Mae Stuart Kinghorn. She cherished and often shared her memories of growing up on Thoroughfare Road, in Grand Harbour, and her love of being her mother’s right hand in helping raise her 7 younger siblings.
Vonnie worked at many jobs and turned her hand at upholstery, wallpapering, creative driftwood art, landscape painting, as well as traditional cooking, sewing and factory work. She was a beautiful singer. Her last years of work before retiring were on the Grand Manan V. She loved being on the water and enjoyed working with her crew. She was known for constantly walking the beaches, gathering beach glass, hiking the Anchorage boardwalk and the miles and miles she continued to walk most days of her illness.
She is predeceased by 2 husbands: Ivan Richard Guthrie, and her first husband Hollis Judson Zwicker.
Vonnie is survived by her children Lorelei (Vernon) Bedford, Sharon (Sam) Greenlaw, Howard (Bernadine) Zwicker, Carol (Doug) Bothwell and Jeffery (Pauline) Zwicker, Peggy (Hollis) Clark and Stepdaughter Rose Mary (Doug) Taton and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Elizabeth Cameron, Buddy (Herman) Guptill, Audrey Foster, David (Maurice) Guptill, Michael Guptill. She is predeceased by her sister Shirley Margaret Gallagher, her brother Murray Glendon Guptill, her youngest brother Maurice Eugene Guptill.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Grand Manan Nursing Home, for the patience, care, and love our mother received while living there. We appreciate the many miles shared on her journey. Our thanks also to the staff of the Grand Manan Hospital for time she was in your care.
Friends and family are invited to meet for a short visitation held at the Seal Cove Baptist Church on Saturday July 15th from 11:30 – 12:30. The funeral will be family, gathering for blessing led by Hollis Clark, before private interment at the graveside.
