Brown,Laurie Sherwood

It is with great sadness that the family of Laurie Sherwood Brown announce his passing on March 3/23 at his home on Grand Manan at the age of 71. He was the son of Barbara and the late Ronald Brown.

After joining the military in 1969, he trained as an electrician and served in many places around the world throughout his nearly 30 years of service, being promoted to the rank of MWO. Following retirement, he moved back to Grand Manan, where he established his own electrical contracting business. He was a member of the Grand Manan Rotary Club and served on the board for Grand Manan Housing for several years. As a proud member of the Grand Manan Legion , he spearheaded the banner project to honour veterans who loved their country as he did. Laurie also formed a special bond with members of the CLC men’s group—they were his “buds”.

He had a special place in his heart for his kids and grandkids—he loved them all dearly and was so proud of each and every one of them. Grampy or Dodo could often be found wrestling on the floor, dressing up in a costume, buying a “sneak” treat, or playing a game of old maid or snakes and ladders. He always looked forward to heading to Winnipeg to spend time with family there, even if it meant driving over 2000 miles due to Covid.

More than anything, Laurie loved his Lord and wanted to honour him in any way he could, whether in word or deed. He had an amazing faith and will be remembered by many for his kind, generous and gentle spirit. He is survived by his wife and best friend, “the love of my life, “Jocelyn (Flagg), his mother, Barbara Brown (Ingersoll), five children, all from Winnipeg: Angie Wiebe (Dennis); Sarah Jane Brown; Stephen Brown (Kate); Melanie Jessup (Lenny) and Melissa DeSchutter (AJ); Bonus kids from Grand Manan Sean Bass (Esha) and Tasha Bass. He was proud to say that he had 18 grandchildren — 12 in Winnipeg and 6 in Grand Manan.

He also leaves behind brothers Michael (Tammy) and Bruce and sisters Ronna Small and Jacqueline Brown from Grand Manan and Freda Gangi ( Frank) from Florida; sisters-in-law Brenda Rayner (Jackie) and Beverley Brown; one brother-in-law Corey Flagg; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Ronald, two brothers Roger and Errol and one brother-in-law, Greg Small.

Visitation will take place at the Community Life Church on Thursday, March 16, from 2-4 and 7-9. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 17, at 12:30 pm at Community Life Church. A livestream of the service will be available to those unable to attend in person, click the provided link and follow the insutructions to access the livestream. Click Here for Livestream

They went above and beyond in their service. Thank you also to friends and family for the love and support shown during this difficult time—your messages, visits, cards, cooking and other thoughtful gestures were so appreciated but more than anything, your prayers.

Care has be entrusted to Humphreys Funeral Home (20 Marks St. St. Stephen NB E3L 2B2) Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com.
