Obituary of James V. Guptill

With shock and sadness, the family of James V. Guptill of Grand Manan NB, announce his passing on Feb 24/23 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was 62.

James was born to Anne (Schnurr)and Charles Guptill in Ontario on Sept 21/60. The family moved back to Charles' home town of Grand Manan in 1964.

James loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, planting his garden and tending the flowers. 

His work life was spent on the water; dulsing, lobster fishing, scalloping, and tending salmon both on a site and at a hatchery. The past year, James bought lobsters for a company on the island and spent time with a crew of men there, whom he counted as friends.

James is survived by his wife, Carla (Bleumortier) of Grand Manan, 4 sons; Jeremy, Sandy(Melanie), Michael all of Listowel, Ont and Mackenzie of Grand Manan, one grandson and one sister, Marianne (Robert) Smith and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Joanne Griffin.

The family would like to thank the island paramedics and hospital staff for their care as well as the outstanding team in Surgical ICU, Saint John Regional Hospital.

The family also wants to thank the people of Grand Manan for the amazing outpouring of love and support over the last 2 weeks.

In keeping with James' wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.  The family would appreciate donations made in his memory to Charlotte County Cancer, SJRH Foundation or a charity of the donors choice.
