Dear Markus and family, It has taken me a few days to write this. I am just so heartbroken , since hearing the passing of dear, dear Simone...this is surreal. I can just imagine how you all are in shock like the rest of St. Andrews and surrounding areas who knew Simone , especially seeing her out painting every where, en Plein air painting with her water colours in hand and her happy presence any where she was. And how can we ever forget that floppy hat ! Loved that ! And her camper and her bicycle ❤️ I was so looking forward to seeing her in a few weeks. She would always pick up my portfolio, any where l asked her to , and we would both look forward to me getting it back, and stay for tea, and laughs and she genuinely wanted to know all about how my family was and if any new art adventures had taken place since our last get together. My last fond memory was last fall, when l stopped in and l could hear her say...”come back here ...lm planting mushrooms !!” First time !! Wanna help??and so I drilled holes in logs and she plugged them full of mushroom seeds...trying to get this finished up to do another project , she said . Always busy...adored her family, and adored Markus and her love for her church and God and painting. I shared some photos here.... I believe l first met Simone at Sunbury Shores ...in a workshop...one of the best things that ever happened ...instant friendship...she was a very special friend to many, and so bright and bubbly ALL the time, that is why l loved being around her. She made me happy ....as everyone else who she met.She will be sadly missed...and l will always remember her for her “ light” with that bright smile and personality, every time she entered a room. Our dear friend has left us and we will miss her so badly. She was a joy to work with - she willingly helped with Youth Retreats, Steubenville Atlantic, brought friends to the annual Catechist Retreat, joined in and became a leader in Alpha, she supported my religious Education office in every way that she could. We first met Simone at the L'Europa Restaurant back when she was the girlfriend of Markus and the restaurant in St.Andrews had recently opened. She won us over immediately with her bubbly personality and enthusiasm over Markus' cuisine. Over the years we saw her each summer at the Europa restaurant. Simone also painted with artist Chinkok Tan in summer workshops there and I met her again at one of Chin's painting critiques. By then, Simone had her first child and thus became a very busy mother, helping with the business and producing beautiful watercolour paintings, which she displayed and easily sold at the restaurant. Simone became very successful with her art and was a valuable and beloved member of the community. We send our deepest condolences to her husband Markus and children at this very sad time. But the memories of Simone will live on ... happy memories we can all cherish forever. Her beauty, her humanity and the beauty of her art still touch us. Dear Markus and children….I learned of Simone’s passing from Fr. Suresh and was devastated but this is not about me…I noticed immediately that Simone was born on the birthday of the Blessed Mother Mary…Sept. 8th and she will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial on March 19th …the Feast of St. Joseph….somehow I am comforted because like the Holy Family…Simone exhibited wonderful attributes. As a loving Wife, Mother and friend to so many. …She in my opinion, was a bright light at St. Andrew’s and in her short life has impacted many not only from the Church which she dearly loved but as well as a leader in her home town and as well in all of. Charlotte County….I have said to others that Simone and your family are every priest’s dream parishioners…..We have lost an exceptionally talented artist and musician but mainly a true friend….I will celebrate my Mass on Saturday for her and all of you.
