Obituary of Iva M. Dow
DOW IVA M. - Unexpectedly at the Charlotte County Hospital on Thursday, July 1st, 2021, with family by her side; Iva Minerva (McElhinney) Dow, wife of Ralph Dow of Valley Road, NB. Born in Lower Brighton, NB, Carleton County, on February 25, 1925 she was the daughter of the late John Flavan & Hazel McElhinney.
Mom came to St. Stephen in the early 40’s to work at the Park Motel where she met her future husband Ralph Dow, who she married in 1943. She began her life working on the farm and over the years she would milk cows and do hard work while raising eight children. Her family was her greatest enjoyment in life.
She is survived by her husband Ralph of 77 years, her children Robert (Gloria) Dow, William (Sheryl) Dow, Sandra (Lanny ) Justason , Mary Ellen ( Sid) Parsons, Janet (Robert) Hemphill, Tony, Wendy(Delbert), Russell (Darcy) Dow,17 grandchildren, Kimberley, Kevin & Karen, Roberta, Stephen, Greg, Tanya, Simeon, Juanita, Krista, Katrina, Katy, Jennie, Jennifer, Leanne, Danielle and Dionne, 30great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren, 4 sisters, Ruby Kimball, Sarah McNally, Edna Dickinson and Glenna Michaud, 2 brothers Rev. Johnny McElhinney and Robert McElhinney, her very special friend Bea Hiltz, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Iva was predeceased by 3 brothers Leavitt, Fred, Russell and 5 sisters Lillian, Bertha, Mary, Irene and Beatrice
She loved to embrace friends & family around her community. She loved listening to her music, making quilts for her grandchildren, playing bingo and spending time with her family.She made many trips to Woodstock for family reunions and in turn her family made many trips to St. Stephen to see her. She travelled to BC. Manitoba and Alberta over the years. Her life was filled with many memories of family and friends, her stories of these adventures will be forever missed. If there is a phone in heaven she would be calling
By Iva’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. She will be laid to rest in her family plot in Hartland at a later date.
