Obituary of David Wayne Alexander

David Wayne Alexander passed away suddenly at Machias Regional Hospital on February 19, 2015. He was born at Welshpool, Campobello Island on May 7, 1940, to Dolly Roselyn (Newman) and Gannett Wells Alexander. Wayne was a great believer in learning and was self taught in many fields. His interests included physics and engineering and he taught himself much of what he knew. He had exceptional talent and creativity. Wayne worked for H.W. Welch Ltd. (later Connors Bros.) for many years, working his way up to manager of the Campobello factory. After the factory closed he worked at Steve Adams' Fabrication shop as a machinist, welder, and fabricator. He also worked on multiple salmon farms, and lastly at Steven Newman's boat building shop. His main hobby was Amateur (Ham) radio and he had friends and contacts from around the globe. His original call sign was VE1ANJ, which he later changed to VE9ST. He mentored several radio operators on Campobello during the years. Over the years, he won several Ham Radio contests, including the First Place Achievement Award in the Wisconsin QSO Party, and First Place for New Brunswick in the American Radio Relay League International Contest for which he still holds the record. In his younger years he loved hunting, waterskiing, riding his motorcycle, camping at Pleasant Lake and, of course, singing and playing his guitar. He loved to laugh and have fun with his many friends. He had great pride in his four beloved children and when they all got together there was lots of laughter. He leaves behind his partner of many years Beverly Savage and his children, Patti Alexander-Denne (Morley) of Riverview, NB; Barbara Alexander(Michael Balsor) of Centreville, NS; David Wayne Alexander of Campobello, NB; and Deane Alexander (Nathen MacDonald) of Riverview, NB. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Claybourne Denne, Katrina Denne, Alexander Denne, Kelsey Denne, Taylor Matthews, Madison Matthews, Justine Alexander, Jackson Alexander, Brooke Alexander, and Eshan MacDonald, as well as his two great-grandsons Dylan Verge and Logan Denne. He is also survived by his brothers Daryl Alexander (Barbara) of Naples, FL; S.R. "Bobby" Alexander (Carole) of Sarnia, ON, and Glenn Alexander (Marianne) of Campobello, NB, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by his sister Alison Hilton (Lester), his brother, J. J. "Jack" Alexander (Dot), and his beloved sister Gay Batson (Irving). There will be a celebration of his life in the spring. Donations may be made to the Wilson's Beach Cemetery Committee or to the charity of ones choice.
