Obituary of Mildred K. Butler
BUTLER MILDRED K. - At the Passamaquoddy Lodge on Sunday, January 5th, 2014; Mildred Keith Butler, in her 105th year, of Breadalbane, NB. Born in Deer Island, NB she is the daughter of the late F. Bruce & Wilhelmina Pearl (McLaughlin) Butler. From 1929 … 1942 Mildred worked as a nurse with the Calais General Hospital as Assistant Chief Nurse. She left her nursing career and happily returned to Deer Island to care for her family and work in the family store. She served as a veteran in World War ll as Captain with the United States Armed Forces from 1942 … 1946. She was a member of the U.S. Legion in Calais, and a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America. Mildred is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her two brothers Russell & Frank, two sisters Shirley Smith and Florence Christopher. She is survived by her very special friend and faithful caretaker of 24 years Velma Yerxa, nephews Dr. Robert B. Christopher of California, Ricky Butler, Stanley Butler and Russell (Rusty) Butler Jr, all of Florida, great nephews, Chad Christopher of Florida , Todd Christopher of California, Tim Butler and Russell Butler (3rd) of Florida, Bruce Pirie of St Stephen, Reid Pirie of Deer Island, great Nieces Tammy Frank of Maine, Sara and Linzi Butler of Florida. Mildred loved Breadalbane and the porch of her farmhouse at Sherrard’s Beach welcomed friends and neighbours and passers … by who enjoyed her hospitality and her stories of travels, Deer Island and local history. By Mildreds’ request there will be no visitation . A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. George Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the St. George Rural Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
