Obituary of Thelma D. McFarlane
THELMA DORIS McFARLANE Thelma Doris McFarlane, 90, passed away on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at the Charlotte County Hospital in St Stephen, NB. She was the last surviving family member of the late Elsie Margaret (Stinson) Ferguson and George Albert Stewart. Born in 1926 in Elmsville, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, she and her family moved to St. Andrews when she was young where she was educated and spent her adult life. In 1946 she married Donald George McFarlane. During the summer months, she enjoyed working at various downtown shops including the China Chest and Leather House. She enjoyed curling, knitting, volunteering with the Tourist Bureau, Meals on Wheels, Ross Museum and was an active member of Greenock Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lee (Raymond Frederick) Milligan, Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Karen Elizabeth Milligan-Thurston, Hamilton, Ontario, Robert Samuel Milligan, Queensland, Nova Scotia, Margaret Thelma Jean (Shaun) Goodhew, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Donna Rae Milligan (Steven deMoss), Halifax, Nova Scotia; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Raymond Thurston, Jacob Ernest Thurston and Zoey Lillith deMoss, sister-in-law Shirley (Colbert) Stewart and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Bertram Stewart and Averd Hazen (Eleanor Jean Brown) Stewart. Resting at Greenock Presbyterian Church, on Friday from where the family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 2 - 4 pm only. The funeral service in celebration of Thelmas' life will be held from the church on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 4:00 pm. Rev. Cheryl MacFadyen will officiate. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall put on by the Ladies Guild. The interment will take place later in the spring at St. Andrews Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Greenock Presbyterian Church or Passamaquoddy Lodge would be appreciated by the family.
