Obituary of Janet M. Stewart

STEWART JANET M. - Janet Mill Stewart, St. Andrews New Brunswick, dearly-beloved wife of Jim, partner for 72 years plus, passed away 17 January 2019 at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, where she had been receiving loving care these past 24 months. Born 25 October 1926 in Tayport, Fife, Scotland. Saw wartime service with WRNS at Rosyth in 1945. Classic "Brief Encounter", while both on leave, at Tay Bridge Station Dundee awaiting mutual train connection to Dunfermline was start of courtship and marriage in Tayport, 28 September 1946. Survived by husband,Jim; three sons, Jim (Jane), Ian (Michele) and Barry(Diane). Seven grandchildren, Maggie, Cameron, Lindsay, Alex, Brittany, Jonathan and Taylor: two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Kimberley; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Alyssa. Special friend, Joan Harvey,Fredericton. Predeceased by father and mother, Edwin and Janet Oswald; brothers Edwin and Francis; sisters, Mae, Lottie, Ina and Nan. A stay at home mum, she took undisguised pride in her family. Famous for her fish and chips, fish chowder, shortbread, lemon meringue pie, and hamburger soup. Followed her husband to Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick in August 1952 when he accepted position with Connors Bros. Limited. She was prominent with local Guides and a leading member of local Ladies Auxiliary, especially with consultation when setting up the many banquets and annual St. Andrews Night celebrations which attracted notables from around the Province. She enjoyed her summers at the cottage on Lake Utopia. Moved to St. Andrews in 1979. Travelled extensively with her husband in Canada, U.S.(so many N.Y. Broadway musicals), Britain, Europe, and Caribbean. Cremation has taken place. No viewing or funeral service.
