Obituary of Gordon Rhoades West

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon West on 16 August, 2026 in his 70th year.

Gord was born 19th March, 1956 in Ottawa and was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Eleanor West. Gord will be deeply missed by his children Lauren (Matt) and Jordan (Amy), and grandchildren Ellie and Charlie. He will be lovingly remembered by siblings Anne (Howard), Margo (Jim), and Ian. 

Gord had a natural talent for building, creating and working with his hands. There was little he couldn’t fix. His kind, welcoming, and easygoing nature paired with his generosity and sense of humour made people feel comfortable and at home in his company.

He lived a full life, calling several countries home over the years. Gord always dreamed of living near the ocean, and we’re so grateful that this dream was fulfilled and St Andrews was where he spent the last of his days. 

He leaves behind not only his family, but also countless friends and members of the communities he called home.

He will be forever loved, remembered, and missed.
