Celebration of Life
Obituary of Charles James Savedoff
Charles James Savedoff died peacefully at home on July 9, 2025 at the age of 77 with wife Deborah and dog Luna by his side.
Charlie was born in Flushing, New York on October 20th, 1947 and grew up in Great Neck on Long Island, NY, the son of Mary Arlen and Abraham Savedoff.
Charlie was devoted to his wife, Deborah Upton, whom he married in 2002, his adored boys Jason Savedoff and Luke [Lucy] Savedoff and precious granddaughter Maeve Mary Savedoff along with family in-laws and nieces and nephews and his darling dog Luna. Predeceased in death by his beloved mother Mary Arlen, father Abraham and brothers Ted and Stephen.
Charlie graduated from Hofstra University in Economics. His 1969 experience with the Outward Bound School in the San Juan National Forest in Colorado transformed his life. His desire to be close to nature is what led him to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1972 and, ultimately, where his sons Jason and Luke were born.
It is in Canada where Charlie enjoyed a career working in waste renewal energy systems for the Forest Products industry, but his investments in everything from real estate to racehorses, and a sushi restaurant to a woolen factory were a source of pride.
He was passionate about his wife, family and friends, playing pickle ball, watching basketball, good food [especially dessert], adventure travel, playing bridge and chess, hiking, singer/ songwriter John Prine, painting donkeys and sunsets, at home, on Net Point. He was big hearted, humble, generous to a fault, grateful and appreciative for all life had to offer, and always a gentleman who never had an unkind word.
Charlie will always be remembered for his wild and wonderful stories of the 60’s in Greenwich Village, New York, attending the Woodstock Music Festival—back stage; and many more anecdotes from travel to right here at home.
At the end Charlie always remembered how good Canada was to him, and how lucky he was to live on both coasts of this wonderful country.
Charlie often said “I love you to death”, and he did.
Friends are invited to a celebration of life, at the Inn at Whale Cove Cottages, The Main House, Grand Manan Island on September 3rd, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A program and time of remembrance honouring Charlie’s life will begin at 2:30 PM.
If you wish to commemorate Charlie’s life please make a donation to the Grand Manan Art Gallery or the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Phillip Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Centre, a service of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506-466-3110)
