Obituary of Gertrude F. Stoddard

STODDARD GERTRUDE F. – At the Charlotte County Hospital on Sunday, April 1st, 2018; Gertrude Freda (Merchant) Stoddard, wife of Lewis Stoddard of Old Ridge , NB. Born in Chamcook, NB; she is the daughter of the late Hazen Walter & Marjorie Alice (Libby) Merchant. Gertrude was the former owner and proprietor of Valley View Manor Nursing Home in which she dedicated 19 years to the service of elders in her community. Surviving in addition to her husband Lewis are her children Eva Gertrude Whittaker (John) of Kelowna, BC, Wanda Lou Higgins (Doug) of Old Ridge, NB, Lynn Charlotte Alice Miles (Marx), Dwayne Eldon Stoddard (Bruce) all of Fredericton, NB, and Kevin Roy Stoddard ( Karen Kent) of, St. Stephen, NB, 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Della Upham (Myron) of St. Stephen, NB, and Victoria VanDriest of Fredericton, NB, several, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gertrude was predeceased by her son Linwood, brothers Raymond and Eldon, sister Elizabeth Holcolmb, 2 half brothers Charlie Merchant & Dias Merchant and a half sister Vida. Resting at Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street St. Stephen , NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110) from where the service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday April 5th, 2018 at 2:00 pm. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home reception centre. The interment will take place at a later date in St. Andrews Rural Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home during a time of visitation on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society or charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
