Obituary of Bruce E. Thorpe
Thorpe, Bruce E – at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his family at his side. Bruce was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, January 5, 1966, son of Clara (Benjamin) and the late Gordon Thorpe. Bruce thoroughly enjoyed life, had a quick wit and a contagious laugh. Bruce enjoyed opening their home to others, and entertaining with his wife, being proud of the home they created together. Bruce took pride in his children, encouraging them to follow their dreams and continue with their education. He encouraged Lindsay in her nursing studies, Spencer with his forestry and he shared his extreme pride in all they do. Bruce often could be found playing golf, curling, or hunting and fishing with his son and brother in law Guy, enjoying the outdoors. Bruce also had a passion for cooking for his family or a large crowd. In addition to being an avid reader he appreciated watching cooking shows and adding to his skills. A good meal and a nice bottle of wine were things Bruce enjoyed with those he loved. Bruce was open to comparing new wines with his mother in law, Barb. Together, Bruce and Barb shared an innate love of the ocean. As a result, Bruce found pleasure in scuba diving across the Americas with Guy. Bruce had an uncanny sense of direction and a taste for adventure and meeting new people. He loved travelling with his family, researching new destinations for any and all. Bruce’s easy going manner allowed him to be comfortable with everyone he met. Bruce had an exquisite talent and patience when working with wood, creating treasures for those around him and with Sandra restoring their home. Having a passion for life, finding fun in all he did, Bruce will be dearly missed by his family and friends. As a marine biologist from Dalhousie University, Bruce worked for the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries for 23 years. Bruce was involved in the Heather Curling Club, was a founding member of the Bayside Golf and Equestrian Club as well as an assistant golf cart mechanic (in training). He leaves behind his wife, Sandra (Yorston) of 27 years, his children Lindsay (21) and Spencer (18), all of St Andrews, his brother Ted (and Gerry) of Lynn Lake, Manitoba, his late brother Bill (and Gerry) of Port Williams, Nova Scotia, his sister Barbara Porter (deceased Johnny) of Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, nieces and nephews Danika, Zaria, Lisa, Trisha, Tracy, Little Ted Jr, JJ, Little Rob, Tammy and Christine. Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of Bruce’s life. It will be held at the Heather Curling Club in St Andrews, on Monday, January 22nd, 2018, from 1:00-4:00pm. In true Bruce fashion, semi casual dress has been requested. A special tribute from family & friends will begin at 1:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Charlotte County cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys Funeral Home.
