Obituary of Edna C. Higgins
HIGGINS EDNA C. - At the Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews, NB; on Friday, January 12th, 2018; Edna Catherine (McGee) Higgins; wife of Dr. Gordon Higgins. Born in St. Stephen, she is the daughter of the late Hazen & Gladys (Horsenel) McGee. Edna was a member of the RCL. Edna thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf. For many years she was the Ladies Captain at the Algonquin Golf Club and served as club President. There is a plaque in her honour at the club house. Surviving in addition to her husband Gordon of 35 years are her children Brenda Hodgkiss (Ben) of Kamloops, BC, Blair Price(Carrie Parker) of St. Andrews, 2 granddaughters Amber & Vanessa, 3 great grandchildren Kara & Lucas, and Brinlee, stepdaughter Katharine Higgins(Per), stepsons Bill Higgins and Harry Higgins (Jan) all of Calgary, one sister Gerry Patterson of Texas, and her brother Herb McGee, several nieces nephews and cousins. Edna was predeceased by her first husband Donald Price ,5 brothers, Peter, Paul, Blair, Doug & Bobby, and 1 sister Lois. Edna & Don opened the first nursing home in St. Andrews at the old O’Dell Mansion at the south end of Montague Street. When Passamaquoddy Lodge was built the nursing home patients were moved to the lodge and Edna became the first Matron at the Lodge. Edna was cheerful and friendly and took great pleasure in helping others. By Edna’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place, A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Sunday February 4th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at All Saints Anglican Church, St. Andrews, NB. Archdeacon John Matheson officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the adjoining church hall. The interment will be held at a later date in the spring at St. Andrews Rural Cemetery In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
